Another day with little offense as O's fall at Cleveland (Gausman note)

So much for Friday's feel-good victory for the Orioles.

The Cleveland Indians could not often take advantage of their many baserunners today, but the Orioles did not have that many runners at all.

The O's were held to six hits today in a 2-1 loss at Cleveland that drops them to 2-4 on this road trip and 25-30 for the season.

The game ended when Matt Wieters struck out and Chris Davis, who had walked, tried to get to second on a pitch in the dirt but was thrown out.

Manny Machado's first-pitch homer to right field in the third provided a 1-0 lead and their only run as the Orioles went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left four on base. The Orioles were held to one run or less for the 11th time.

After issuing just six walks over his previous five starts, O's starter Ubaldo Jimenez walked six today to tie his career high. He came into this start walking just 2.5 per every nine innings this year.

Yet he somehow kept Cleveland to one run through five innings, allowing six hits. He got two double play balls and the Tribe went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position against him. From the second through fifth innings, Cleveland left nine runners on base.

Jimenez does not get a decision, saw his ERA lowered to 3.02 and threw 107 pitches, 58 for strikes. When Cleveland scored on Nick Swisher's single to tie the game 1-1 in the last of the third, he walked three and threw 17 of 28 pitches for balls.

But Cleveland got the lead the inning after Jimenez left against right-hander Brad Brach. In the sixth, Jason Kipnis walked with two outs and scored on a Carlos Santana double for the 2-1 edge.

Winning pitcher Danny Salazar gave up just one run and six hits over seven innings with 10 strikeouts. He is 6-1 with an ERA of 3.50. Tribe pitchers fanned 12 O's on the afternoon.

The Orioles missed a chance to tie their season-high win streak of three games from April 25-29.

In the series finale at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, Bud Norris (1-4, 9.88 ERA) comes off the disabled list to start against right-hander Carlos Carrasco (7-4, 3.92 ERA).

Gausman goes three: Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman made an injury rehab start tonight for Single-A Frederick at Wilmington. He pitched three innings, allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and four strikeouts. Gausman threw 40 pitches, 32 for strikes. His next outing is expected to be four innings for Double-A Bowie as the Orioles build his innings back up for him to be a starter. He has been on the O's DL retroactive to May 7 with right shoulder tendinitis.
