Poor Bud Norris.
Norris pitched two innings against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Aug. 23 before a 3 hour, 9 minute rain delay ended his afternoon. His next start went uninterrupted, but he's back in the clubhouse tonight after allowing an infield single to Reds leadoff hitter Billy Hamilton.
A heavy rain began to fall with a 2-2 count on Todd Frazier. Time was called at 7:36 p.m.
The game started 23 minutes late due to rain. Norris threw 10 pitches before the next storm arrived.
The grounds crew struggled to get the tarp on the field after sprinting to it as umpires halted play. A bat boy and clubhouse attendant raced from the dugout to offer assistance.
It's been nothing but weird since the first pitch.
Hamilton plowed into first base umpire Mike DiMuro while reaching on his infield hit. DiMuro walked off the field with Orioles assistant athletic trainer Brian Ebel, leaving us with a three-man crew.
Norris threw a few warmup tosses after the ball ricocheted off his foot. Hamilton was shaken up on the play, but stayed in the game.
Hamilton swiped second base, setting the Reds rookie record with his 55th steal.
What else can happen?
Stay tuned.
Update: The delay lasted 1 hour, 46 minutes. The Orioles took a 4-0 lead in the blink of an eye.
The Orioles collected four runs and five hits off Matt Latos in the first inning. Nelson Cruz, Chris Davis, Jimmy Paredes (ground out) and Caleb Joseph had RBIs.
The Orioles are 15-1 when Joseph has an RBI.
Cruz's 91 RBIs this season are a career high.
Alejandro De Aza reached on an infield hit in his first at-bat as an Oriole.
Update II: Jonathan Schoop led off the second with his 13th home run to increase the lead to 5-0.
The five runs off Latos ties his season high.
