Answering the Chen question, White Sox lineup

CHICAGO - There seems to be some concern and confusion among fans regarding manager Buck Showalter's decision to push back Wei-Yin Chen's scheduled start to Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Field. Chen isn't hurt. That's the most important point. Showalter indicated before the Orioles broke camp that the first off day could allow him to adjust the rotation, and that's exactly what he did by delaying Chen's next start. Jake Arrieta is working on normal rest tonight. Chen will have gone exactly one week between outings, but that's why he's the fifth starter. Showalter wants to be able to control Chen's innings and provide additional rest in his first year pitching in the U.S., which puts the Taiwanese left-hander on a different schedule than the one he's grown accustomed to during his career. It's just a cautious move implemented to keep Chen fresh and not burden him as he adapts to major league life. This also has nothing to do with breaking up lefties Brian Matusz and Chen in the rotation, since Showalter said last week that it didn't matter if they pitched back-to-back. Then again, Mark Reynolds wasn't supposed to be taking ground balls at first base, so things change rapidly around here. Here's the White Sox lineup: Alejandro De Aza CF Brent Morel 3B Adam Dunn DH Paul Konerko 1B A.J. Pierzynski C Alex Rios RF Alexei Ramirez SS Dayan Viciedo LF Gordon Beckham 2B Philip Humber RHP Down on the farm, Brad Bergesen is making his third start tonight for Triple-A Norfolk. He's 0-2 with an 8.68 ERA. Left-handers are batting .478 against Bergesen in two games, while right-handers are batting .235. Infielder Matt Antonelli upped his league-leading walk total to 13 yesterday, tying him for second in all of minor league baseball. He trails Salt Lake City's Ryan Langerhans, who's drawn 15 walks in 10 games. Antonelli has drawn at least one walk in eight of the nine games he's played in this season, including five in a row, and his .500 on-base percentage is tied for fourth in the International League. Outfielder Jai Miller has hit safely in six of his last seven games, batting .346 (9-for-26) with four doubles, a triple, a home run and six RBIs. Miller leads the Tides in hits (11), RBIs (six), total bases (21), slugging percentage (.568) and strikeouts (20). His seven extra-base hits also rank third in the International League. Outfielder Scott Beerer has hit safely in four straight games, batting .316 (6-for-19) with an RBI. Chris Tillman, who starts on Tuesday, celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday. Tsuyoshi Wada will make a rehab start for Norfolk on Thursday at Gwinnett. Game time is 12:05 p.m.
