Are pitchers adjusting to Chris Davis? (plus a take on Ortiz)

So have pitchers adjusted to Chris Davis? Why hasn't he homered since the All-Star break and why is he striking out so much right now? First of all, keep in mind that with 37 homers and 97 RBIs, Davis has already had a year that many players would be proud of over 162 games - and he's played only 104. But Davis has fanned in eight of 11 at-bats the last three games. In nine games since the All-Star break, he is 8-for-35 (.229) with no homers, four RBIs and a .596 OPS. He has fanned in 36 of 80 at-bats this month. So have the pitchers changed how they are pitching him? "They are always making adjustments," Davis said after last night's game. "I'm obviously not seeing a lot to hit, but at the same time, I'm not helping myself out very much. I think the Texas series, Kansas City and this series, as well, I've swung at a lot of pitches out of the strike zone. "When you don't feel great at the plate, you want to try and create something when you are not getting something to hit and it works against you. I'll deal with it, move on and hopefully get something started (today)." So did David Ortiz really say something about the umpire taking his at-bat away? Are you kidding me, you only get 500 or 600 a year. Ortiz's tantrum last night was ridiculous. No way was that reaction appropriate, I don't care how badly the umpire missed a call or two. If you can't control your emotions any better than that, maybe you should take a day or two off. What made it worse for me was his team led by five runs at the time. Guess it is all about David. What a disgrace. Ortiz felt disrespected? How does he think that phone felt? How about the umpire? How about his own manager he almost ran over? I only hope no kids were watching but unfortunately thousands were.
