For the Orioles, it was a blown save, a blown game and a frustrating end to their road trip.
Aaron Hill's RBI single in the last of the 14th gave Arizona a 5-4 win over the Orioles as the Diamondbacks sweep the series, winning three in a row by one run each. Arizona won each game in its last at-bat.
Down to one pitcher left in the bullpen in T.J. McFarland, Buck Showalter brought starter Bud Norris on for the 14th. Norris walked the first two batters on four pitches each before he fanned slugger Paul Goldschmidt. Then Hill's groundball single to center ended the O's longest game of the year in terms of innings played.
In the last of the ninth, Jim Johnson suffered his third straight blown save as Hill's single tied the game at 4-4. Johnson has nine blown saves on the year.
The O's led in the seventh inning in all three games of this series, but lost all three. The O's led 4-2 in the second inning, but didn't score over the game's last 12 innings.
Chris Tillman went six innings, allowing five hits and two runs. He was trying to become the Orioles' first 15-game winner since Erik Bedard in 2006.
Tillman recorded his 16th quality start in 24 outings. For the O's, it was their seventh quality start over the last nine games and the starters' ERA is 2.88 in that stretch.
The Orioles did all their scoring in the second inning today, getting four off Patrick Corbin. Nick Markakis came up with a two-out, two-run single and Manny Machado followed with a two-run homer, his 11th of the season. Corbin had allowed just two runs in the second inning all year until this afternoon.
The Orioles will come home with a record of 65-55 to begin a nine-game homestand Friday night against the Colorado Rockies.
