Arrieta does it again as O's top Giants, 4-1

So can Jake Arrieta pitch more often than once every five days? Probably not. But the 24-year-old rookie right-hander is now 2-0, 2.77 after two Major League starts. Pitching vs. a Giants team that had won four in a row and had scored 10 runs the night before, Arrieta gave up just three hits and one run over seven innings and one batter on Tuesday night. He walked two, fanned three and threw 95 pitches. Here is a pretty remarkable stat. O's starting pitchers have just two wins over the last 19 games and they are the two starts by Arrieta. Just like vs. the Yankees, he looked composed at the start and retired the side in order in the first. He gave up a Pablo Sandoval homer in the third inning and that was the only hit he allowed over the first five innings. He did this vs. a Giants team that had scored six runs or more in nine of their last 16 games. David Hernandez pitched the ninth to get his second save. One of his fastballs registered 99 on the radar gun. Adam Jones hit a solo homer, Miguel Tejada had three hits and Ty Wigginton drove in a pair for the Orioles. The Birds ended a four-game losing streak and a nine-game road losing streak. They can win the series in San Fran if they can win Wednesday afternoon vs. Tim Lincecum. Jones has hit safely in nine of his last ten games, batting .342 (13 for 38) with two homers and 8 RBI. *Corey Patterson had two hits and is 10 for 25 (.400) during a six-game batting streak with six runs and four stolen bases.
