Arrieta knocked out in the fifth as O's losing streak reaches four

The Orioles lost another game tonight and they earned this one. They got poor starting pitching, left 11 runners on base and made three errors. Jake Arrieta lasted just 4 1/3 innings, as Toronto beat the Orioles 8-6 to take the first two games of the series at Rogers Centre. The Orioles have now lost a season-high four in a row to fall to 29-21 on the year. They are just 2-7 over their past nine games and are 14-11 against the American League East. Arrieta gave up seven runs (six earned) and six hits in his short outing, throwing 95 pitches. He was staked to a 1-0 lead but then Toronto scored two in the third and three in the fourth and fifth innings in improving to 26-24 with its second straight win following a five-game skid. Over the last 23 games, Orioles starters have an ERA of 5.76 and the team is 11-12 in that stretch. Adam Jones' solo homer in the second gave the Orioles a short-lived lead and was his 15th homer of the year. He added his 16th in the ninth. Jones has now hit safely in 20 straight contests, which is the longest streak by an Oriole since Brian Roberts hit in 20 in a row in May 2005. The Orioles were down 8-1 when they scored three runs in the sixth on Mark Reynolds' RBI groundout and a Chris Davis two-run homer. Jones added a two-run shot in the ninth that made it a two-run game. But Baltimore couldn't finish the comeback. The Orioles have now lost three series' in a row for the first time all season. They will need to win tomorrow to avoid getting swept in Toronto.
