Asher Wojciechowski with a gem as O's win and take series

The day after the Boston Red Sox scored 17 runs, Orioles right-hander Asher Wojciechowski showed us that even baseball's highest-scoring team can be pitched to.

Wojciechowski had a no-hitter through six innings on a steamy afternoon and spun 7 1/3 scoreless innings as the Orioles blanked the Red Sox 5-0 at Camden Yards.

The Orioles ended a 10-series winless stretch against Boston that dated to September 2017. Boston had gone 8-0-2 in its last 10 series and 19-3 in its last 22 games in Baltimore coming into today. But they lose this series two games to one.

Boston had not been shutout over its past 81 games since April 16, the second-longest streak in the majors this year. The New York Yankees had a 97-game scoring streak.

Three Orioles combined on a one-hitter, with Paul Fry and Mychal Givens following Wojciechowski to the mound. It was the Orioles' first one-hitter since the last game of the 2018 season versus Houston.

Wojciechowski fanned nine over his first four innings, getting 18 swings and misses on 58 pitches to that point. He finished with two walks and 10 strikeouts, a season high by any Oriole and a career high for him.

He improved to 1-3 with an ERA of 3.97, throwing 105 pitches, 68 for strikes. He finished with 23 swings and misses and employed a nice combination of breaking balls down in the zone mixed with elevated fastballs.

Meanwhile, Trey Mancini provided the bulk of the Orioles offense.

Mancini was the second batter former Oriole right-hander Andrew Cashner faced today and he homered for a 1-0 lead. It was No. 20 for Mancini, who bashed a first-pitch 92 mph fastball 394 feet just to the right of straightaway center field.

The O's lead doubled to 2-0 in the second. Dwight Smith Jr. drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Chris Davis one-out double. He lined one down the left-field line for his 26th RBI.

Then Mancini struck again in the third for a two-run shot and 4-0 lead. His blast scored Jonathan Villar, who reached on an infield hit. Mancini drove a 3-1 changeup over the wall in left center. It's his second multi-homer game of this season and seventh of his career.

Mancini just hit two homers on Wednesday night against Washington. In the last four games, he is 7-for-15 with four homers and seven RBIs. Villar's solo homer in the eighth completed the scoring.

Cashner allowed four runs and six hits over six innings. Over his past five Orioles starts, Cashner pitched to an ERA of 1.41 and did not allow a homer in 32 innings. He has allowed four homers in his first eight innings with Boston.

The Orioles (31-67) went 4-5 on this homestand and are 15-36 at home for the year. They are 9-9 over the last 18 games. Boston (54-46) lost for just the fourth time in its last 19 road games and falls to 23-22 versus the American League East.

The Orioles now hit the road for a three-city, nine-game West Coast trip that begins Monday night at Arizona.
