Manager Dusty Baker confirmed that Chris Heisey, Jayson Werth and Ryan Raburn will accompany the team to Florida when the Nationals begin their six-game road trip in Miami. All three will rehab at the club's West Palm Beach facility.
"Raburn and Heisey could be ready pretty soon, not sure when exactly," Baker confirmed, but Werth is not close to running yet. "They backed him off from running because it's not quite healing as fast as we would've liked," he said. "We are hoping," Baker added, knocking on wood.
Shawn Kelley "could go out on a rehab pretty soon. That's the most noteworthy of all the guys," Baker said. "Kelley's sim game was pretty good. He felt good about it at this stage because he hadn't been out there in a long time."
Baker said Michael A. Taylor (oblique) "is progressing well, so we will test him the next couple days, but not to rush him, because you don't want that to reoccur. We're going to be very cautious with him."
"We are hoping to get some of these guys back sooner rather than later."
Baker had an update from Thursday on Koda Glover (shoulder, back) who is already at the Florida facility working out. He said Glover threw from 90 feet.
You wonder now how the acquisition of Howie Kendrick might affect some of these outfielders who are still on the disabled list.
Also, there's no new update on Trea Turner, who is still working his way back from fractured wrist. Mid-August looks like an optimistic rejoin point.
