Beckham undergoes surgery (and other notes)

Tim Beckham underwent core muscle surgery today in Philadelphia and he's projected to be out for six to seven weeks, leaving the Orioles without half of their starting infield.

Beckham-Catch-White-Sidebar.jpgBeckham is expected back at Camden Yards on Friday to begin rehabbing. He'll walk with head athletic trainer Brian Ebel and gradually increase activities.

Manager Buck Showalter said Beckham had surgery "on both sides."

"He's resting as comfortably as he can be," Showalter said.

Second baseman Jonathan Schoop will fly down to Sarasota on Sunday while the Orioles head to Anaheim to begin their West Coast trip. Schoop could begin playing in extended spring training games on Wednesday as he continues his recovery from a strained oblique.

Showalter has a target date for Schoop's return that he's not making public.

Closer Zach Britton threw off a full mound again today. The news remains positive.

Mark Trumbo could be activated from the disabled list for Tuesday night's game in Anaheim. He's working out today at Camden Yards and will join Triple-A Norfolk on Friday in Charlotte.

Trumbo will play at least two games with the Tides.

Norfolk catcher Andrew Susac has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with an ankle injury.

Susac is batting .359/.479/.615 with four doubles, two home runs and 12 RBIs in 11 games. He reached base in each game.
