The tarp is on the field at Camden Yards and showers are headed this way. The Orioles must prepare as if they're playing the Rays tonight in the opener of a three-game series. However, they're also withholding certain roster decisions while braced for a postponement.
Third baseman Tim Beckham is undergoing an MRI and figures to go on the disabled list later tonight if the teams are able to play. He's currently active and listed among the reserves.
The Orioles could recall Engelb Vielma from Triple-A Norfolk if there's no postponement. Otherwise, Beckham likely would go on the disabled list Wednesday while Jace Peterson joins the roster.
Peterson is flying into Baltimore later tonight after the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Yankees.
Trey Mancini is listed as the left fielder tonight, but he could switch to designated hitter due to the anticipated rain. The lineup card is tentative, but he's going to play.
Before the tarp was rolled out, second baseman Jonathan Schoop hit off a tee, took ground balls and threw to further test the condition of his right oblique. He ran yesterday, which was a big step in his recovery.
Closer Zach Britton threw off a regular mound today after twice stepping on the half-mound and twice doing fielding drills. His recovery from Achilles surgery continues to go exactly how the Orioles wanted it.
Mark Trumbo worked out with the Orioles today instead of returning to Double-A Bowie and playing right field in tonight's game. The forecast and field conditions were factors in keeping Trumbo in Baltimore.
Trumbo went 1-for-3 with a walk last night and played first base.
If tonight's game is postponed, the Orioles and Rays could play a doubleheader in May or July, or they could fill the open date on July 30 and turn it into a five-game series.
