Belfiore designated for assignment, Escalona placed on 60-day DL

The Orioles finalized their roster this afternoon and created two openings on the 40-man roster for reliever Evan Meek and outfielder Delmon Young. Left-hander Mike Belfiore was designated for assignment and pitcher Edgmer Escalona was placed on the 60-day disabled list. Belfiore allowed one run and five hits in two innings with the Orioles last season and went 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA in 37 games at Triple-A Norfolk. Escalona made one appearance in an exhibition game this spring before being shut down with a right shoulder impingement. The Orioles placed four players on the 15-day disabled list: Michael Almanzar, retroactive to March 23 with left patellar tendinitis; Manny Machado, retroactive to March 21, recovering from left knee surgery; Francisco Peguero, retroactive to March 21, with right wrist tendinitis; and Nolan Reimold, retroactive to March 26, recovering from cervical spine fusion surgery. Additionally, left-hander Johan Santana was reassigned to minor league camp while he continues rehabbing from left shoulder surgery. He's now throwing off a regular mound. Once again, here's the 25-man roster: Starters Chris Tillman Ubaldo Jimenez Wei-Yin Chen Miguel Gonzalez Bud Norris Relievers Tommy Hunter Darren O'Day Ryan Webb Evan Meek Josh Stinson Brian Matusz Zach Britton Catchers Matt Wieters Steve Clevenger Infielders Chris Davis Jonathan Schoop J.J.
