Bergesen dominant in O's 3-1 win over Toronto

Kyle Drabek pitched pretty well at Camden Yards tonight in his Major League debut. But Brad Bergesen was better. The O's great run of starting pitching continued Wednesday night as the Orioles beat Toronto 3-1 on Bergesen's seven-hitter to complete a three-game sweep. Bergesen improves to 7-10, 5.03 and pitched his second complete game of the season and the Orioles third.

He got plenty of defensive help as Cesar Izturis made two great plays, Nick Markakis made a leaping catch at the wall in the 2nd and the Orioles turned two double plays. Bergesen needed just 95 pitches on the night and used 10 pitches or less in five different innings. throwing just six in the 3rd and 8th innings. He allowed two singles with two outs in the 9th but got Lyle Overbay on a comebacker to the mound to end a game which took just one hour and 55 minutes. O's starters are now 5-0, 1.66 over the last nine starts and the ERA of the Orioles starters is 2.93 in the 41 games since Buck Showalter became manager. Drabek took the loss and gave up nine hits and three runs over six innings. Luke Scott knocked in a run in the first to tie the game 1-1 after Jose Bautista's 47th homer in the top half gave the Jays a brief 1-0 lead. The O's scored two in the 4th to gain the lead. The O's complete the sweep, improving to 26-15 under Showalter and they have won nine of their last 11 and 13 of the past 18 games.
