Bo Porter will remain third base coach for the Nationals

Bo Porter will remain the third base coach of the Nationals, according to general manager Mike Rizzo. Porter spoke with Rizzo about the vacancy on the coaching staff at the bench coach position, following manager Davey Johnson's announcement that Pat Corrales would not return at that post next season. The Nationals believe Porter is very valuable to the organization as a coach, especially as the third base coach. They mutually decided that Porter best serves the Nationals at third base and his coaching of the team's young talent has become extremely important. Once club source told me moving Porter from the third base coaching box would be like moving "the Gold Glove shortstop to third base." Porter joined the Nationals last season, and this will be his sixth season as a big league coach. One of Porter's ultimate goals is to become a manager at the major league level. Depending on how long Johnson remains manager of the Nationals, Porter would most likely be one of the top candidates to take over if the post became available in the future.
