Bowie closer moves to Triple-A

The Orioles have moved Bowie closer Jose Diaz to Triple-A Norfolk. They officially placed pitcher Dan Klein on the 7-day DL and added Pedro Viola from Baltimore along with pitcher Armando Gabino, who leaves Norfolk and joins Bowie. Diaz appeared in 25 games for Bowie, going 0-2 with a 1.48 ERA and an Eastern League-leading 17 saves in 19 opportunities. The right-hander struck out 28 batters in 24.1 innings of work. Klein has appeared in nine games for the Baysox, going 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA over 16.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 16 batters while allowing 14 hits and three walks. He is eligible to come off the disabled list Sunday, June 12. Viola appeared in one game for the Orioles, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings of relief against the Seattle Mariners. He struck out two batters and did not allow a hit or a walk. The left-hander appeared in 18 games for the Baysox this season, going 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA over 22.0 innings of work. Gabino pitched in 17 games in relief for the Norfolk Tides, going 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA. He walked 20 batters and struck out 22 over 31.0 innings. He last pitched for Bowie in April of last season, when he went 0-0 with one save in two appearances with a 4.15 ERA over 4.1 innings.
