Britton starting Wednesday in Cleveland

Orioles manager Buck Showalter is shaking up his rotation. Or maybe it's more of a tweak. During his pregame session with the media in Cleveland, part of which aired on "O's Xtra" on MASN2, Showalter announced that left-hander Zach Britton would start Wednesday's series finale against the Indians at Progressive Field. Britton's insertion in the rotation pushes back the other starters. Miguel Gonzalez will start the first game against the White Sox on Thursday at Camden Yards, followed by Scott Feldman, Wei-Yin Chen and Bud Norris. Chris Tillman, slated to pitch on Sunday, apparently will be moved back to Monday night against the Yankees at Camden Yards. Britton, 25, is 2-3 with a 4.76 ERA in six starts for the Orioles this season. In 19 starts for Triple-A Norfolk, Britton went 6-5 with a 4.27 ERA over 103 1/3 innings. In his last two starts with the Tides, Britton allowed only two earned runs (three total) in 14 innings, with four walks and 10 strikeouts. Showalter isn't going with a strict six-man rotation. He's pretty much going with last year's plan, where he may insert a starter and remove or push back another to provide additional rest. Britton figured to be an extra bullpen arm after the Orioles recalled him on Monday, but the script seems to change daily around here. In his last start for the Orioles, Gonzalez allowed seven runs and six hits, with three walks, over four innings at Yankee Stadium. Showalter is looking to give him an extra day of rest.
