Bundy cleared to resume throwing, Davis named AL Player of the Week

The Orioles received good news today on pitcher Dylan Bundy following his visit to Dr. James Andrews in Gulf Breeze, Fla. Bundy, the fourth-overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, has been cleared to resume a throwing progression program that will start on June 10, according to Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette. The Orioles have been targeting June 10 as the date, so Bundy is right on schedule. Bundy hasn't pitched since spring training because of stiffness near his right elbow. He received a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection from Andrews on April 29 and was told to rest for six weeks. Bundy eventually will join Double-A Bowie's rotation. In other news, Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has been named American League Player of the Week for the period ending June 2nd, his second such honor this season and his third since the final week of the 2012 regular season. That's a lot of watches to be awarded. In seven games last week, Davis led the majors with a .481 (13-for-27) average and led the AL in hits, total bases (26), slugging percentage (.963) and runs scored (10). His four homers tied Seattle's Jason Bay for the most in the league and his .500 on-base percentage was tied for second. Davis added six RBIs to his weekly totals, giving him 52 on the season. Orioles closer Jim Johnson also received consideration after notching three saves and not allowing a run in three innings. Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was named AL Player of the Month for May, denying Davis back-to-back monthly honors. Davis and the Angels' Mike Trout also received votes. Davis batted .364 with 10 doubles, 10 homers, 22 RBIs and 22 runs. Also, the start time for the Sunday, June 30 game against the Yankees at Camden Yards has been moved from 1:35 p.m. to 8:05 p.m. to accommodate ESPN. Original ticket purchasers holding tickets for June 30 who are unable to attend due to the time change may exchange their tickets for any remaining regular season home game this season, except vs. the Yankees on June 29, at the Camden Yards box office.
