Bundy's next start at Single-A Frederick, and other notes (O's down 3-0)

The Orioles announced today that pitcher Dylan Bundy will make his next injury rehab start on July 3 at Single-A Frederick. The Keys host Salem at 6 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium. Bundy has done enough damage in the New York-Penn League. In three starts at short-season Single-A Aberdeen, he allowed one run and 10 hits in 15 innings, with three walks and 22 strikeouts. Exactly one year removed from Tommy John surgery last night, Bundy allowed three hits and struck out seven in five scoreless innings for the IronBirds. No word on how many starts Bundy will make with Frederick before moving up to Double-A Bowie. Rule 5 infielder Michael Almanzar has joined Triple-A Norfolk on his injury rehab assignment. Left-hander Jake Pettit has been promoted to the Tides from Bowie. The Orioles are 8-2 against the Rays going into today's game at Camden Yards. They also have the highest in-division winning percentage in the majors, going 22-14 (.611) versus the American League East. The Athletics are second in the majors, going 21-14 (.600) against the AL West. The Dodgers are 23-16 (.590) versus the National League West and the Reds are 20-14 (.588) against the NL Central. Are the Orioles relying too heavily on the longball? According to STATS, they're 30-25 since May 1 and have homered at least once in all 30 wins. They've lost their last 11 games in which they've been held without a home run, the last win under those circumstances coming April 26 in 10 innings in Kansas City. Nick Markakis is three hits away from 100 this season. He's set to become the 10th player in franchise history with at least 100 hits in nine separate seasons with the club. With 28 more hits, Markakis will become the sixth player in Orioles history to record at least 125 hits in nine different seasons with the club. Update: Desmond Jennings homered on the fourth pitch from Orioles left-hander Wei-Yin Chen to give Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead. Logan Forsythe hit a two-run homer in the second inning, his first of the season, to put the Orioles in a 3-0 hole. Jennings has seven career leadoff home runs, the last before today on April 18, 2013. He was 4-for-23 against Chen before today. Chen allowed three homers in his first eight games. He's surrendered 11 in his last eight. The Jennings homer came on a 92 mph fastball. Forsythe homered on an 83 mph changeup. Steve Pearce was stranded in the bottom of the first after doubling with one out. He's now 9-for-22 (.409) against the Rays this season, with four doubles, three home runs, six RBIs, five walks and five runs scored.
