Low Single-A Hagerstown Suns shortstop Carter Kieboom has been placed on the disabled list with a right hamstring injury suffered on May 12. A club source told me they are treating all symptoms at this point with Kieboom and it is too early to determine when he will return to play.
The 19-year-old Nationals first-round selection in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft was recently ranked No. 98 in the top 100 of Baseball America's latest list of prospects.
Kieboom was off to a good start for the Suns. In 29 games, he hit .333 with 10 doubles, six homers and 20 RBIs.
USC shortstop Angelo La Bruna replaced Kieboom and went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
The club is already without the No. 57 ranked prospect in right-fielder Juan Soto, who is on the disabled list with an ankle injury. Soto is batting .360, leading the league through 23 games.
Center fielder Daniel Johnson is also rolling to begin the season, hitting .294 with seven doubles, one triple, eight homers and 19 RBIs in 31 games.
The club is still off to a promising start at 21-14. Manager Patrick Anderson has the Suns tied with Lakewood in first place in the Northern division of the South Atlantic League. Hagerstown is 13-7 at home.
