Cashner questionable to make next start

Andrew Cashner is receiving a trigger point injection in his neck this afternoon due to spasms, a procedure he's undergone in the past around the All-Star break. The latest one puts Sunday's start in jeopardy.

Cashner could go on the disabled list and return immediately after the break.

The Orioles' options for Sunday's starter include Yefry Ramírez, who would be eligible to return if replacing an injured player, and Jimmy Yacabonis, who can return at any time because he was the 26th man in Monday's doubleheader.

Chris Tillman also is a possibility because his next rehab start would be Sunday with Triple-A Norfolk, leaving him to work on normal rest.

Kevin Gausman opposes Nick Pivetta in Thursday night's makeup game against the Phillies at Camden Yards. Alex Cobb starts Friday night against the Rangers at Camden Yards, but the other two spots are TBD.

The Rangers are starting left-handers Cole Hamels, Martin Pérez and Mike Minor.

Trey Mancini is out of the lineup to provide a break to a slumping player that could extend beyond tonight's game. Perhaps something similar to Jonathan Schoop's back-to-back days off.

Mancini is batting .220/.296/.362 in 87 games. He's 2-for-25 with eight strikeouts this month.

Showalter said Mancini claims that his knee is fine and the struggles at the plate aren't related to his health.

On this date in 1987, second baseman Billy Ripken was called up from the minors to join brother Cal and their father, Cal Sr. - marking the first time in history that two brothers were managed by their father.
