Chris Davis to undergo hernia surgery

You can add corner infielder Chris Davis to the list of Orioles who will undergo sports hernia surgery after the season. Davis is in tonight's lineup at third base. He's batting .265 with five homers and 19 RBIs. "It's something he's had for a while," Showalter said. Second baseman Ryan Adams is scheduled to undergo a similar procedure on Oct. 4 in Philadelphia. Also, outfielder Matt Angle will work out at second base in the fall instructional league in Sarasota. "You've got Bordy (Mike Bordick) and Bobby Dickerson and Brian Graham down there. Just take a look at it," Showalter said. It seems apparent that the Orioles want to increase Angle's versatility with an eye toward making him a utility player next season. The Orioles were going to send Davis to the instructional league, but those plans changed because of his pending surgery. "We want to get this medically taken care of right away," Showalter said. Showalter will fly home Friday and head over to Sarasota on Monday. Will he still be the Orioles' manager? Showalter said "no firm decision" has been made concerning his role in 2012. He'll discuss it with his family over the weekend. The Orioles could send out a press release as early as tomorrow announcing that Andy MacPhail won't return as president of baseball operations next season. Speculation is building that Showalter could take over those duties.
