Cleveland scores two in the 13th to beat the O's 8-7

The Orioles were behind, they went ahead, the game got tied. And then they lost. But it took quite a while. In the longest game of the season, Cleveland beat the Orioles 8-7 in 13 innings tonight. The Orioles had been 4-0 in extra-inning games. To make matters worse, Manny Machado left the game after he struck out in the last of the 11th with right groin stiffness. He went 1-for-6 tonight and is 10-for-32 over his past seven games. Cleveland loaded the bases with one out against Troy Patton in the 13th and a two-run double down the third base line by Carlos Santana broke the 6-6 tie. Nick Markakis homered in the bottom of the 13th to bring the O's within 8-7. The Orioles fall to 23-22 overall. They are 9-11 at home and have lost five straight at Camden Yards after dropping the opener of this four-game series. After Cleveland tied the game 5-5 in the top of the seventh, the O's moved ahead in the bottom of the inning. A pair of infield errors gift-wrapped the run as a Nelson Cruz sac fly made it 6-5. But Lonnie Chisenhall's pinch-hit solo homer off Darren O'Day tied it 6-6 in the eighth. Cleveland has now made an American League leading 49 errors. The Orioles, at 21, have the fewest. The Orioles have now scored six or more runs in four straight games for the first time since May 22-25, 2013. Trailing 3-0, the Orioles scored five runs in the last of the sixth. All the run-scoring hits came with two outs. Steve Clevenger and J.J. Hardy singled in runs before Ryan Flaherty's three-run homer to right made it a 5-3 O's lead. It was Flaherty's first of the year and first since Sept. 25 at Toronto. The rally came against Justin Masterson, who was pitching on three day's rest. It came one inning after the Orioles loaded the bases with no outs but failed to score. Cleveland scored twice in the seventh off Wei-Yin Chen to tie the game 5-5. But the inning ended when David Lough made a leaping catch at the wall to rob Asdrubal Cabrera of a three-run homer and that play kept the game tied, 5-5. Chen gave up eight hits and five runs over 6 2/3 as his ERA increased to 4.08. He threw 92 pitches coming up an out short of his third seven-inning outing over his last five starts.
