The Orioles played their first extra-inning game of the year and walked off with a 2-1, 12-inning win over Toronto. Steve Lombardozzi tripled with one out in the 12th and scored the winning run on David Lough's single to left.
The Orioles got outstanding pitching and finally ended a 15-inning scoreless streak in the last of the seventh inning. Tommy Hunter suffered his first blown save, but his teammates picked him up as the O's improved to 5-6. Here are some quotes from around the winning clubhouse.
Lough on his game-winning single:
"With the infield in, I was just looking for a good pitch. Just get it somewhere where Lombardozzi could score. When Lombardozzi hit that ball, I was in the on-deck circle waving my arms telling him to keep going. It was a good team win."
Lough on returning to the lineup:
"Yeah, I want to be out there for my team and help do things like tonight. It's never good when you have a lingering issue, but hopefully we got it squared away and we can look past that."
Hunter on the Colby Rasmus homer in the ninth:
"He hit a 90... pretty good fastball. Sometimes you tip your cap. He swung at a ball that was up. It was where I wanted. We talked about it afterwards. One-run ballgames, you probably throw the ball down and away instead of up. He hit it.
"You hopefully get a chance tomorrow and pitch. That is the only thing you can do in this game. There is a lot of adversity that a lot of players face and this is just part of it. Come back tomorrow and give your team a chance to win.
"I got beat with a fastball and I would say that is probably my best pitch. If you get beat with your best stuff, that quote about the bear sometimes. He got on top of a pretty hard fastball. I'm probably going to face him again. Guarantee I'll get another crack at it."
Jonathan Schoop on his RBI double in the seventh:
"Really felt good to drive that run in and put us on the board. I was looking for a pitch I could drive and I did it. This ballclub, you can count on everybody. The bottom part did a really good job. This club is good, the one through nine hitters."
Schoop on his fielding today:
"Yesterday was yesterday. I learned from it and was better today. I'll continue to practice and get my work in and try to get better every day."
Steve Clevenger on the pitch to Rasmus:
"It was a good pitch, it was just up in the zone. I thought maybe if Tommy located a little better, we'd have better results with it. That's baseball, sometimes that happens, but at the end of the day we got the win."
Bud Norris on the win and his outing:
"First things first, this team is fun to watch. The way we played today and battled to come back and win was pretty awesome. I felt really strong. Early in the game, just wanted to pound the strike zone. Had a great game plan with Clevenger, he gets a lot of the credit for that and the guys made plays behind me."
Norris on the others in the rotation joining Chris Tillman with good outings:
"We're going to get it going. Tilly is the lead dog and we're trying to catch up to him. He's a good guy at the front. But with Ubaldo (Jimenez), (Wei-Yin) Chen, (Miguel Gonzalez) and myself, we know we can go out there and do the job. These guys have pitched in the big leagues for a while now. It's a long season, 162 is what we have to play and we just want to take it a game at a time."
