Crichton to DL, Castillo in lineup

The Orioles have recalled reliever Miguel Castro from Double-A Bowie and placed reliever Stefan Crichton on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. The DL move is retroactive to Tuesday.

The Orioles first recalled Castro on May 17, optioned him to Bowie four days later, summoned him again on June 12 and optioned him on Saturday while recalling Crichton.

Because he's replacing an injured player, Castro doesn't need to stay down for the minimum 10 days.

Castro has allowed five earned runs (seven total) and 11 hits in 11 innings in his eight appearances. He's walked five batters and struck out six.

Meanwhile, catcher Welington Castillo said his left knee feels much better, and he's in tonight's lineup against the Rays.

Castillo injured the knee last night in Toronto while slipping on the steps leading into the dugout following batting practice.

"I feel good. I feel good to go, so that's a good sign with my knee. I'm going to be in there today," he said.

"Honestly, it scared me a lot when this happened. It was feeling like when you sprain an ankle, something like that, but I woke up feeling good. Just like one to 10, No. 1 of pain, so that's a good sign. I'm really happy about it."

Chris Tillman remains tied with Sidney Ponson for 12th place on the Orioles' all-time wins list with 73.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Ubaldo Jiménez joined Jim Wilson in 1955 as the only Orioles pitchers to allow nine runs and then throw at least eight scoreless innings in consecutive starts.

The Orioles signed right-hander Adam Stauffer, their 19-round pick out of Coatsville Area (Pa.) High School. They've now signed 30 of their selections.

Nathan Showalter, son of Orioles manager Buck Showalter, is responsible for signing Stauffer, who's listed at 6 feet 7 and 240 pounds.
