Davis continues to do it (O's win 11-3)

Why stop at one home run? Chris Davis has homered twice tonight, sending an Ivan Nova curveball onto the flag court in right field in the sixth inning to increase the Orioles' lead to 11-2. Ridiculous. Out of control. Davis has six career multi-homer games and three this season. The others came on May 29 vs. Washington and June 19 in Detroit. Davis has tied his career high with five RBIs tonight. It's the fourth time overall and third this season. Oh, there's more. Davis' 30 home runs ties Brady Anderson's club record, set in 1996, for the most before the All-Star break. Davis has connected tonight on 80 and 81 mph curveballs by two different pitchers, taking David Phelps' offering into the Orioles' bullpen and Nova's above the out-of-town scoreboard. How do you pitch to this guy? Davis now has 55 extra-base hits in 82 games. He's totaled 27 RBIs in his last 17 games. In his last 48 games since May 9, Davis is batting .348 with 15 doubles, 21 homers, 48 RBIs and 39 runs scored. That's good, right? Per Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com: Davis' slugging percentage is .724, which would be 22nd-best in history over a full year, 11 spots head of Babe Ruth or Barry Bonds. Update: Jair Jurrjens shut out the Yankees on three hits over 2 1/3 innings, with no walks and one strikeout. Pedro Strop opened the ninth by allowing back-to-back doubles, but he retired the next three batters while Darren O'Day warmed in the bullpen, and the Orioles assured themselves of a series win by defeating the Yankees 11-3. Another Davis note: He's 11-for-28 against the Yankees this season, with four home runs, eight RBIs and 14 strikeouts.
