Davis finds the seats again (Jones with RBI, Tillman done)

BOSTON - Boston Red Sox starter Alfredo Aceves fell behind Chris Davis 3-0 in the top of the second inning tonight. At that point, it may have been a good idea to just bounce one in the dirt. Aceves challenged Davis with a 93-mph four-seam fastball and lost. Davis belted his sixth home run in nine games, the ball slamming into the seats in center field, to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead. Davis watched the flight of the ball for a brief moment before dropping his bat. It was never in doubt. That's 13 home runs for Davis in his last 16 games. He's got 19 RBIs this season. The club record for most home runs in a month is 11 by Brady Anderson in April 1996, the year he hit 50. Davis is more than halfway to breaking it. In the Orioles last 16 games, Davis has streaks of four and six straight games with a home run dating back to Sept. 26. Manny Machado doubled off Aceves with one out in the first, but he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. Jackie Bradley Jr. made a sliding catch in left to rob Nick Markakis and end the inning. Orioles designated hitters are now 1-for-27, if you're keeping track at home. Chris Tillman has retired six straight batters since Jacoby Ellsbury led off the bottom of the first with an infield hit. Update: Tillman allowed three straight two-out singles to fall behind 2-1 in the third inning. A leadoff walk to Stephen Drew started the rally. Tillman struck out the next two batters before Shane Victorino, Dustin Pedroia and Mike Napoli strung together hits. Tillman has allowed four hits, walked one and struck out four. He's thrown 65 pitches, 38 for strikes. Update II: Adam Jones tied the game in the fifth with a two-out single to center that scored Machado, who reached on a bunt hit. Jones has hit in all nine games this season. Markakis is 0-for-3 and Orioles designated hitters are 1-for-29. Update III: Tillman goes 5 1/3 innings and allows two runs and six hits, with two walks and five strikeouts. He threw 101 pitches, 60 for strikes. Brian Matusz stranded two inherited runners by striking out Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Drew. We're still tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh.
