Davis out of lineup with sore foot

It's first baseman Chris Davis' turn to get a night off. Davis is out of the lineup tonight because of a sore right foot, a condition that he aggravated during the four-game series at Tropicana Field. Manager Buck Showalter pinch-hit for Davis in the eighth inning last night and is starting Steve Pearce at first base again tonight, with Brian Roberts serving as designated hitter. Davis was the DH last night. "It's one of those things where I think everybody's body is hurting at the end of the year," said Davis, who's batting .285/.368/.631 with 42 doubles, 52 home runs and 137 RBIs in 157 games. "It didn't help that we played 18 innings on turf and then turned around and played nine more. Just trying to get my legs underneath me. I know the last three days are important to us for a number of reasons. "I think he had kind of planned on giving us a day to rest. I was going up there last night for my fifth at-bat in a game that we were leading significantly. It's not anything that's serious. It's just a nagging thing and I think he's giving me a chance to kind of take a break." Davis, who expects to be back in the lineup Friday night against the Red Sox, has a screw in his right foot to repair a 2007 fracture. Also, outfielder Chris Dickerson won't play in these next four games because of a slight tear in his hamstring. Dickerson hasn't been available the last few days. The Orioles gave Dickerson the chance to go home early, but he insisted on staying with the club. Showalter said he doesn't expect infielder Alexi Casilla to play again this season. Casilla's head slammed into Nick Markakis' leg during Monday's game against the Rays, and he also injured his right thumb while attempting to make a diving catch in right field.
