Davis reaches another milestone and Eutaw Street (O's lead 7-6)

Add Chris Davis to the list of Orioles who have hit 40 home runs in a season. Davis became the fifth Oriole to reach the milestone when he launched a ball an estimated 442 feet onto Eutaw St. in the bottom of the third inning to increase the lead to 5-3. Mariners right fielder Michael Morse didn't budge. The only people who moved were the fans chasing after the ball. Aaron Harang threw Davis two straight 90 mph fastballs. Davis wasn't fooled. That's three home runs in the last four games for Davis, who joins Brady Anderson (50), Frank Robinson (49), Jim Gentile (46) and Rafael Palmeiro (43) as the only Orioles to hit 40 or more in a single season. Davis' ball is the 72nd to land on Eutaw Street, the sixth this year and the 29th all-time by an Oriole. Davis has done it four times in his career. Davis now has 101 RBIs on the season. Darryl Strawberry still has the longest home run hit at Camden Yards, his ball traveling an estimated 465 feet off Mike Mussina on June 17, 1998. The longest by an Oriole? Jeffrey Hammonds (460 feet) off Eric Plunk on Sept. 15, 1997. Ryan Flaherty just hit one of the shortest, the ball bouncing back onto the field after appearing to clear the out-of-town scoreboard in right. Flaherty was held at second with a double, the umpires reviewed it and ruled a home run - the seventh for Flaherty this season and his first since June 29 against the Yankees. So Flaherty starts in place of Brian Roberts, who's on paternity leave, and produces a double and home run in two at-bats. Just as the Orioles planned it. Instant update: Chris Tillman isn't going to make it easy. He just served up a leadoff home run to No. 9 hitter Humberto Quintero in the fifth to reduce the lead to 6-4. Yes, the No. 9 hitter. Still torturing the Orioles. Update II: Tillman had allowed three earned runs in 27 2/3 innings against the Mariners. He's charged with six tonight, tying his season high, in only 5 1/3 innings. Troy Patton replaced Tillman with runners on the corners and one out in the sixth inning, and Michael Saunders lifted a sacrifice fly for the sixth run. Tillman allowed eight hits, walked three, struck out five and served up two home runs. He threw 102 pitches, 64 for strikes. Tillman also allowed six runs on May 29 vs. Washington. He can still win his 14th game tonight, but the Orioles are clinging to a 7-6 lead. Adam Jones drove in his third run tonight with a one-out single in the fifth that scored Manny Machado, but Kendrys Morales and Morse doubled in the sixth to reduce the lead to 7-5, and Justin Smoak followed with a single to bring manager Buck Showalter out of the dugout.
