Dylan Bundy: "My arm felt good, so that's always positive" (plus other notes)

Dylan Bundy came out of yesterday's Arizona Fall League start feeling good about the condition of his right arm, his velocity and his overall performance.

Bundy said he threw six fastballs among his seven pitches while retiring the Mesa Solar Sox in order in the first inning. His strikeout came on a slider in the dirt.

"It was only seven pitches, so it was kind of quick," said Bundy, who was added to the Peoria Javelinas roster last week. "I was hoping they'd let me go back out there since I had 20 to work with. But I felt good.

"I just went out there with the attitude that I was going to throw the ball over the plate and see what happens. My arm felt good, so that's always positive."

Bundy's fastball topped out at 94 mph. Not bad at all considering that he hadn't pitched since May with Double-A Bowie.

"It would be great if it was harder," he said, "but that's plenty of velocity to get big league hitters out."

Unless his schedule changes, Bundy will start again on Friday and Monday. Orioles manager Buck Showalter is expected to fly to Arizona.

"Now I'm just taking it one step at a time and maybe throw on flat ground or a bullpen in between my next start or the next time I get in a game, and go from there," Bundy said.

"I'm still working on my pitches and locating balls a little bit better."

It's also a good sign that the strikeout came on one of Bundy's secondary pitches.

"I'm working on tightening my slider up and getting velocity on it a little more like it used to be," Bundy said.

Bundy is scheduled to work one inning again in his next start, "and after that, I'll throw more," he said.

* The Major League Baseball Players Association released the names of 139 players yesterday who filed for free agency, including the Orioles' Chris Davis, Matt Wieters, Wei-Yin Chen, Darren O'Day, Steve Pearce and Gerardo Parra.

The Nationals' list grew when they failed to pick up the options on former Orioles outfielder Nate McLouth and reliever Casey Janssen. The Cardinals' list grew when they declined reliever Jonathan Broxton's option. Yankees pitcher Sergio Santos chose free agency over an outright assignment. The Reds declined the options on pitcher Burke Badenhop and infielder/outfielder Skip Schumaker.

The list includes players who have announced their plans to retire. I believe that covers almost half of the Giants.

Teams have until Friday afternoon to make $15.8 million qualifying offers to their free agents. The Orioles, as I've written, will do so with Davis, Chen and Wieters. Players are given a week to accept or decline.

I'm just thrilled that the Winter Meetings can include another round of Gavin Floyd rumors. I live to keep that one alive.

I'd be shocked if the Orioles didn't express some level of interest in Sipp, a left-handed reliever who posted a 1.99 ERA in 60 appearances and struck out 62 batters in 54 1/3 innings. I know he already got their attention.

Sipp, 32, was a bargain at $2.4 million. Right-handers are batting .201 against him in seven major league seasons, and left-handers are hitting .213.

* Loved this nugget from the Elias Sports Bureau:

Four players have made the last out in a World Series and been named Most Valuable Player in another one - Ron Cey, Pete Rose, Edgar Renteria and Salvador Perez.

* Online betting site Bovada has placed the Orioles' odds of winning the 2016 World Series at 40/1.
