Dylan Bundy on being optioned to Double-A Bowie (plus minor league notes)

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles today optioned pitcher Dylan Bundy to Double-A Bowie. The move doesn't change much for Bundy, who is not yet pitching in any games. It's just that his rehab work could shift from Ed Smith Stadium to the O's minor league complex. bundy throwing spring sidebar.jpg"Don't know if it's my place to say exactly what we are going to do (with where my rehab will be). We are still looking into what we can do, but I'll be down there throwing for the next week for sure," Bundy said. He underwent elbow ligament replacement surgery on June 27 and his rehab program will progress a bit as he begins to pitch off flat ground next Wednesday. Now Bundy can also work more closely with Dave Walker, the Orioles minor league medical coordinator who was heading up his rehab during the first six months. "Basically, about the same thing I've been doing, but I will be throwing to an actual catcher this time," Bundy said. "My throwing progression is going as well as anyone can expect. My arm is great. Can't ask for much more." The Orioles have indicated Bundy could pitch in minor league games as soon as sometime in May or June. But Bundy said to put a date on that is just not reasonable at this point in his rehab. Things are going very well for the 21-year-old pitching prospect that is rated as the sport's No. 15 prospect by Baseball America and Basebal Prospectus, No. 20 by MLB.com and No. 31 by ESPN. "I don't want to jinx anything by saying too much about it. Just keeping doing my work," Bundy said. The Orioles now have 46 players at major league spring training, including nine non-roster invitees. Here are notes on Thursday's minor league games: * Triple-A Norfolk tied Tampa Bay 5-5. Julio Borbon and minor league free agent signee Kyeong Kang went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk. Juan Morillo and Fabio Castillo both pitched scoreless innings, with no hits allowed and a strikeout each. * Double-A Bowie won 5-4. Stater Zach Davies pitched two scoreless innings on one hit with no walks and three strikeouts. Christian Walker was 1-for-3 with an RBI double. * Single-A Frederick lost 1-0. Starter Branden Kline pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with no walks or strikeouts. Mitch Horacek went two scoreless on one hit with two strikeouts. Conor Bierfeldt was 1-for-3 with a double. * Single-A Delmarva lost 4-2. O's 2013 first-round pick Hunter Harvey gave up one run over two innings with three strikeouts. Josh Hart went 2-for-3 with two singles. Drew Dosch was 1-for-2 with a double and walk.
