Eveland could join rotation Friday (with Rangers lineup)

The Orioles removed left-hander Dana Eveland from last night's start with Triple-A Norfolk so he can start here Friday night. Eveland tossed five scoreless innings and threw 63 pitches before coming out of the game. He's allowed nine earned runs in 36 2/3 innings this season, and only two in his last 13 innings. Eveland isn't on the 40-man roster, so the Orioles would have to make room for him. One possibility is transferring second baseman Brian Roberts to the 60-day disabled list. His 15-day assignment was backdated to late March, so it wouldn't make much of a difference. It's not like a 60-day assignment starts fresh from the date he's moved to it. Another move could be putting catcher Taylor Teagarden on the 60-day disabled list. He's received three epidural injections for his lower back and isn't close to rejoining the team. Manager Buck Showalter wouldn't confirm Eveland as Friday's starter, in part because he's waiting to find out whether the schedule is altered by the weather, but the veteran left-hander is the current choice to take the ball for the start of the Tampa Bay series at Camden Yards. The Norfolk rotation currently lists Joel Pineiro as tonight's starter, Steve Johnson tomorrow, Brad Bergesen on Thursday, Tommy Hunter on Friday, Chris Tillman on Saturday and Jason Berken on Sunday. The Orioles will option Berken to Norfolk and recall left-hander Zach Phillips. They're waiting to make sure tonight's game isn't rained out before announcing the transaction. Also, outfielder Nolan Reimold is feeling a little better, but he's still got some tingling in his fingers. He may get an epidural shot, according to Showalter. Left-hander Zach Britton is slated to throw 45 pitches Thursday at extended spring training. Oliver Drake (shoulder) threw 57 pitches yesterday at extended spring training.
