Eveland designated for assignment, prepares to head back to Triple-A

Orioles lefty Dana Eveland is packing his bags. Again. For the third time this year, he has been designated for assignment. It happened again today so the Orioles could add Miguel Socolovich back to the active roster. Eveland was added to the O's roster just yesterday and was here this time for just one game that he never pitched in. "I didn't know what was going to happen," Eveland said this afternoon. "I was happy when I found out I was coming up yesterday. I wasn't sure if I'd be here for just a day or a little while. I was going to make the most of it. We'll see what happens from here. "I understand it. I'm not upset about it. I'll just get back down there (at Triple-A) and get back to work. I was down for such a short period of time, I never had a chance to get better, which I know I need to do. "I'm not sharp right now. I know I'm good enough to pitch at this level, but at the same time, it's tough to pitch here if you are not on top of your game, and right now I am definitely not. So, I'll hopefully get down there and start a few games. Get stretched out obviously and ready to come back and fill whatever role they think needs filling, if there is one." Eveland said he was told the Orioles have already begun the process of putting him on waivers. He could clear by 1 p.m. Sunday, and then officially be headed back to Triple-A Norfolk. He expects that to happen. "As long as I clear, I'm going to accept the assignment (with Norfolk). There is no reason for me to go anywhere else," Eveland said. "No one needs a guy who is not at his best right now. Obviously, I've got some work to do and hope to get on a schedule and get back to a routine and find myself again." Eveland is 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA over 14 games and two starts for the Orioles. He was first designated for assignment on March 29 and again on July 14. After he cleared waivers the most recent time, he returned to make one start for Norfolk and gave up six runs over 3 1/3 innings. "Ever since we had the baby, it's been a lot of ups and down and time off, and when you are not at your best, you don't need that. Hoping to get this waiver situation over and get back to work," he said as he made plans to again return to Norfolk and pitch for the Tides.
