Feel-good Sunday: Davis homers and O's beat Toronto to hit the break on a high note

With each swing these days, it seems Chris Davis puts that seven-game stretch - where he went 1-for-24 - further and further in his rearview mirror. It seems like a distant memory now. Scott Feldman, with a strong outing, made his last start a distant memory also and picked up his first win as an Oriole today. Davis homered for the fourth straight game and had four RBIs today, and he heads off to the All-Star Game on a high note, as the Orioles beat Toronto 7-4 in front of 34,748 at Camden Yards. Adam Jones homered, and it was his third straight day with a homer. Davis and Jones became just the second pair of O's teammates to each homer in three straight games, joining Hank Foiles and Jim Gentile on July 18-20, 1961. The O's went 4-3 on this homestand and hit the All-Star break with a record of 53-43. Davis came up with a two-run double in the O's four-run first inning and added a two-run homer in the third as the O's opened an early 6-0 lead. Davis has 37 homers and 93 RBIs. The homer total ties him with Reggie Jackson (37 in 1969) for most homers ever by an American League player at the break. His offense somewhat overshadowed Jones, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, solo homer and a walk. Jones went 6-for-9 in this series, with three homers, six RBIs and three walks. He heads to the All-Star Game with 19 homers and 67 RBIs. Feldman was the winning pitcher, getting that early lead and pitching into the eighth inning. He went 7 1/3, allowing five hits and three runs, and throwing 110 pitches. Feldman improves to 1-1 with an ERA of 5.79 in three O's starts. The Orioles had lost four in a row against Toronto as this series began, but they take two-of-three this weekend and finish the first half 18-9-4 in their 31 series. Five O's head to the All-Star Game, and Davis will be in the Home Run Derby competition tomorrow. The Orioles' next game is Friday night at Texas. At the Futures Game: O's prospect Eduardo Rodriguez pitched a very impressive sixth inning for the World team, getting a 1-2-3 inning on just eight pitches and ending it with a strikeout. Henry Urrutia is 0-for-3 in the game so far. At last check, Team USA led 3-2 in the seventh inning.
