Final comments from the clubhouse after Game 5

NEW YORK - The Orioles' inability to generate any semblance of an offense will most likely be the primary focus of the 2012 postseason. They batted .187 in the American League Division Series, which negated the 2.52 ERA posted by their pitching staff. "Nobody hit," said first baseman Mark Reynolds. "They didn't hit, we didn't hit. There was some really good pitching, I guess. Just couldn't get the big hit when we needed it tonight. It sucks, but we'll be back. We'll be back." "You always want to learn off every experience, good or bad, and we'll definitely take that in and try to improve and come back in spring training ready to go," said catcher Matt Wieters. "I think every pitcher who went out there in this series did a phenomenal job, both sides included. It's something to where, playoff baseball, they're going to be close games and it's going to be those key timely hits that we just couldn't quite get." Were the Orioles pressing? "That's easy to see from afar, you would think that, but I think that their pitchers made good pitches," said center fielder Adam Jones, who was 2-for-23 with no RBIs. "We had good pitches to hit. We fouled them off, missed them or hit them right at guys. "We didn't get it done. No matter how you put it. You can say the pressure did this. Plain and simple, we didn't get it done. We went out there and gave it our all. We played our (butts) off. We didn't get the result we want. "We fought. It's just unfortunate that five guys got cold at the wrong time." More from the clubhouse: Jones: "I was texting B.J. Upton the other day, and he was saying that if you don't get to the postseason, it seems like failure. We battled and battled." Reynolds: "We had so many people step up this year and a lot of guys put some stuff together for us, and without contributions from everyone in here, we wouldn't be where we are. For it to end this way stings, but we had a good run. We have experience and hopefully next year we'll be back in this situation. Reynolds: "We made it to the playoffs and nobody expected that. We pushed the Yankees to five games. Nobody expected us to beat Texas on the road. Overall, it's not the final result we wanted, but we're going to regroup and get ready for another 162." Reynolds: "It was a blast. It was proving everybody wrong, proving you guys wrong all year long. It was a good ride and we're going to take the experience we gained from this and remember how much this stings and be ready to roll next year." Wieters: "It's a good year. It stings right now, but at the same time, this is the baseball that the Baltimore Orioles want to play and this is a starting point for us. We can move into the offseason and try to improve and get an even better team out there next season." Jason Hammel: "We're not going to hang our heads at all. We accomplished a lot of good things and inside this clubhouse we know what we put into this thing. The sky's the limit for us. We challenged ourselves to really do better, and tons of expectations among us. Outside they can say what they want, but we knew we had it in us and we're going to continue to work hard." Chris Davis: "I think the youth is obviously a big plus for us, to get a little taste of what it feels like to be here and also to get that bitter taste in your mouth knowing that you're going home. But you know, you've got to start somewhere. Like I said, we've done a lot of positive things this year. Though it's hard for us right now, we can't forget that." Manager Buck Showalter spoke to his club after the game. "I'm not going to tell you what he said, but he's proud of us," Davis said. "Listen, we're disappointed we didn't get to where we wanted to be, but we made a lot of strides. We felt like we had a good team coming out of spring training no matter what everybody else told us. I feel like we defied all odds and played some good baseball this year. It's something to be proud of."
