First time through the All-Star order (Davis out, Machado in)

The Orioles are 0-for-3 so far tonight in the 84th All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York. First baseman Chris Davis flew to center field on an 0-2 pitch from National League starter Matt Harvey with two on and one out in the first inning. Harvey threw Davis 98 and 99 mph four-seamers before retiring him on an 89 mph fastball. Adam Jones struck out on a 98 mph fastball from Harvey in the second inning on the 10th pitch of the at-bat. The ball tailed up and in. Jones, who laid off a 2-2 pitch that bounced outside, is now 0-for-3 with an RBI in three All-Star Games. J.J. Hardy led off the third inning against Clayton Kershaw and flew to left-center field with the count 2-2. Kershaw threw Hardy an 88 mph slider, and it initially appeared that the Orioles shortstop had doubled into the gap, but the ball hung in the air a little too long. Hardy is 0-for-1 with a walk in two All-Star Games. The good news for the Orioles is nobody got hurt. Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano had to leave the game in the first inning after being drilled on the right knee by a Harvey fastball. X-rays were negative. Word out of New York is that Chris Tillman will be held out of the game unless it goes into extra innings. Somebody has to be saved for that role. Orioles owner Peter Angelos is attending the All-Star Game, as he often does. A FOX camera captured him sitting next to Tom Seaver, who was being interviewed by Erin Andrews while Jones batted in the second. Update: Davis followed a Miguel Cabrera leadoff double in the fourth off Arizona's Patrick Corbin with a single to right field that deflected off the mitt of NL first baseman Joey Votta. Cabrera scored on Jose Bautista's sacrifice fly to give the AL a 1-0 lead. Davis is now 1-for-2 tonight. Cliff Lee faced Jones and Hardy in the fifth. Jones led off with a double to left for his first All-Star Game hit, moved to third on Joe Mauer's single and scored on Hardy's fielder's choice grounder to second. Hardy beat the relay throw to first, giving him the RBI and giving the AL a 2-0 lead. The Orioles are 2-for-6 with an RBI and run scored. Jones is 5-for-17 with a home run against Lee in the regular season. Hardy is 1-for-9 with three strikeouts. Update II: Davis struck out against Miami's Jose Fernandez to end the sixth inning. He went 1-for-3 tonight in his first All-Star Game before Prince Fielder replaced him at first base. Manny Machado replaced Cabrera at third base in the bottom of the sixth, joining Hardy on the left side of the infield. Jones struck out against Cincinnati's Aroldis Chapman to end the seventh, making him 1-for-3 with a double and run scored. Jones saw back-to-back 101 mph fastballs. The Orioles are a collective 2-for-8 with an RBI and run scored.
