Five homers and steady Strasburg lift Nats to 7-4 win over Mets

On Monday night, the Nats scored the first run followed by five runs in a row by the Mets. The Mets hit three home runs to go on to win 7-1.

On Tuesday night, the Mets got on the board first with one run in the fourth. The Nationals retaliated with five runs fueled by three homers over two innings to lead 5-1.

The Nationals went on to hit a season-high five homers and even the series courtesy of a 7-4 decision.

Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon hit back-to-back homers in the fourth to quickly erase the Mets 1-0 lead.

Murphy-Swings-White-Sidebar.jpgWith the Nationals up 2-1 in the fifth, Daniel Murphy hit a two-run shot to cap off a three-run rally, extending the lead to 5-1.

Mets starter Matt Harvey (3-7) struggled again, surrendering five runs in five innings, allowing eight hits, two walks and striking out one.

Ben Revere smacked a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, his first homer of the season, to put the Nationals up 6-2.

Wilson Ramos added a homer in the eighth over the left-center field wall to make it 7-2.

It marked the first five-homer game for the Nats since May 8, 2015.

Rendon's power numbers are up this month. Rendon had four extra-base hits in 23 April games. He has 10 extra base hits so far in 23 May contests.

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg (8-0) started off well with three hitless frames against the Mets. He struck out at least two batters in each of those first four innings.

The start mimicked his outing last week in New York. May 19 he pitched six innings, allowed six hits, one run, one walk and struck out 10, in a 9-1 victory.

In the fourth, former Nationals infielder Asdrubal Cabrera launched a solo homer over the right field fence and the Mets had a short-lived 1-0 lead.

The Mets got a two-run ninth-inning homer from Eric Campbell. The two runs were the first reliever Shawn Kelley has allowed this season.

Strasburg reached double-digits in strikeouts for the fifth time this season and 26th time in his career. He is now 8-0 and the Nationals have won the last 14 games he has started.
