Ryan Flaherty is back on the Orioles active roster. He was on the disabled list from August 2-24 with a bacterial infection and just returned from playing nine game at Triple-A Norfolk, where he hit .289 with two homers, three RBIs and an .868 OPS.
"I started a little bit slow down there for the first three or four games and then I got it going," Flaherty said. "Want to take that back here and help this team win."
Flaherty began 0-for-15 in Norfolk but brings a hot bat back to the team as he went 11-for-23 after that.
Flaherty said he's been feeling just fine for quite a while now after his illness.
"I got better within like three days but I lost like ten pounds," Flaherty said. "It took about three days for the swelling to go away and after that I was fine. I wasn't sure what they would do. I just knew I'd have a rehab assignment and get some at-bats."
The month of July was Flaherty's best as an Oriole. Over 31 at-bats he hit .258 with three homers, six RBIs and a .851 OPS after hitting just .186 through the end of June.
Flaherty made an interesting comment today when he said he needed to get better at being a part-time player. He was getting every day at-bats with Norfolk, but he knows that likely won't happen here with the Orioles.
"It was definitely good (to play every day at Triple-A) but in the role I'm in, I need to get better at playing sparingly. But it was nice to play every day and get some at-bats," Flaherty said.
"It's something you have to learn (playing well as a reserve). Just by talking to people and try to find ways to stay active. That is all you can do really."
