Frank and Brooks Robinson on their time as Orioles and the current team

Reporters got to hear from a steady stream of Orioles and Baseball Hall of Famers today. We heard from some of the greatest players to ever wear orange and black. Yeah, we had a good afternoon. In the last press conference of the day, Hall of Famers Eddie Murray, Frank Robinson and Brooks Robinson spoke. FrankBrooksEddiesidebar.jpgFrank spoke eloquently about his time here as a player and the good feeling he has now coming back for tonight's 60th anniversary celebration. What made it special to be an Oriole? "The people here. My teammates," Frank said. "We had a lot of fun the six years I was here. We looked at each other and no one was better or bigger than anyone else. We were all equal. "For a long time, especially in the '66 season, the press tried to drive a wedge between Brooks and I. But the only thing between Brooks and I was the space between our lockers. We never had a cross word to each other. We never argued or got upset with each other, on or off the field. "It was a great relationship and it still is. We have great feelings for each other. That is the warmth of this organization. "For a while, with the team losing it wasn't there. But I'll tell you one thing, Dan Duquette and Buck Showalter deserve a lot of credit for bringing that feeling back. And bringing back the older Orioles. "Dan and Buck always ask us to talk to the current players. That is a good feeling and they listen to us. Here, with this organization now, you're welcome and the players are happy to see you and talk to you. The feeling is back here. It's a great fanbase here. The fans see you outside the ballpark and they treat you like family. That is what made the six years I was here the best six years of my career." Brooks talked about the Orioles being close to a dynasty from 1969-71. "Frank said something to me that really hit home - if we had won the '69 and '71 World Series, we'd be ranked as one of the greatest teams ever," Brooks said. "I seriously believe that, but the problem is you have to win." Brooks talked about the current Orioles. "It's tough to win, but no reason why we can't win the division," Brooks said. "After that, it's pot luck. You have to play well and face better pitching. But the teams I see in the American League East now, the Orioles should win it. That's the way I feel. "It's been exciting, but it's hard to win a World Championship. But I love it, glad to see all the young people enjoying the games and all the orange shirts you see." Frank talked about being the only player to ever hit a ball completely out of Memorial Stadium. He did just that on May 8, 1966. "We were facing Luis Tiant and he had thrown three straight shutouts," he said. "I had never seen him before. The first pitch was a fastball down and in and I hit it. You know when you get one. You don't know how far, but you know you got it. "When I came into the dugout, the guys were saying that ball went completely out of the ballpark. I said, 'Get out of my face. No way.' They said, 'Yes it did.' When I went out to right field, the fans gave me a standing ovation. I thought maybe it did go out."
