Game 38 lineups: Nats at Dodgers

LOS ANGELES - The Nationals came to play in game one in their 6-0 win over the Dodgers. Howie Kendrick and Patrick Corbin were the biggest heroes, but the Nats also were able to do a couple of things they've had trouble doing in the season's early going: scoring runs in multiple innings and having their bullpen shut down the opponent in the final two innings.

The 6-0 win is the first shutout of the Dodgers in Nationals history. The Expos last shut out the Dodgers 3-0 on September 14, 1999. The Nats' victory also snapped a five-game skid against L.A. dating back to 2018.

Kendrick-Trots-Home-Gray-sidebar.jpgKendrick's three-run shot got it all going in the first inning. The former Dodgers player hit his sixth homer of the season, but said the big roundtripper wasn't fueled by thoughts of revenge.

"I don't really think about that," Kendrick said. "I look at every team as competition. They are going to try to beat us, we are going to try to beat them. I love my time here with the Dodgers. I know a lot of those guys. The fans here have always been great to me. But I think the biggest thing is trying to play good baseball as a team and trying to win ball games, regardless of what anybody's record is. I think every team, you just try to win games."

The next hurdle for the Nats is to start a win streak and get veteran right-hander Aníbal Sánchez (0-5, 5.15 ERA) his first win with his new club. Sánchez is 1-2 with a 3.63 ERA in seven career starts against the Dodgers. He has allowed 21 earned runs in seven starts this season for the Nats. He has allowed 39 hits in 36 2/3 innings.

The Dodgers counter with right-hander Kenta Maeda (3-2, 4.66), who started game three of the 2016 National League Division Series against the Nationals, an 8-3 win at Dodger Stadium. This will be Maeda's first matchup against the Nats in the regular season. Facing a right-hander means the Nats will give Gerardo Parra his first start in a Nationals uniform. He is hitting .158 (3-for-19) with a double in his career against Maeda.
