The Nationals head into Sunday seeking their first win in the three-game series versus the Dodgers.
The Nats will also welcome one of the top prospects in all of baseball to Nationals Park, as 19-year-old Juan Soto joins the team, his contract having been selected this morning. He was with Double-A Harrisburg in Richmond on Saturday. Soto is the No. 15 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com and is considered the top power-hitting outfielder in the Nats system.
To make room for Soto on the 25-man roster, the Nats optioned right-hander Jefry Rodriguez to Harrisburg. To make room on the 40-man roster, outfielder Moisés Sierra was designated for assignment.
Soto hit .362 with 10 doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 52 RBI, 29 walks, three stolen bases and 33 runs scored in 39 games for low Single-A Hagerstown, high Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg. Soto is tops in Minor League Baseball in home runs (14), RBIs (52), and OPS (1.218).
Right-hander Stephen Strasburg (5-3, 3.28 ERA) facing off against left-hander Alex Wood (0-4, 3.35) in the series finale.
Strasburg has won three straight starts and has a 2.61 ERA during this current run. Wood has a 4-3 record with a 2.55 ERA in 11 starts against the Nats, and is 1-2 with a 2.30 ERA in five starts at Nats Park. Strasburg is 2-3 with a 2.45 ERA in eight starts against the Dodgers.
