The Nationals welcome in the Padres to D.C., searching to get back on track after losing three of their last four games.
Washington split four games with San Diego earlier this season, winning the first two from June 16-19 at Petco Park. Five Nationals players, including Stephen Strasburg and Daniel Murphy, were invited to last week's All-Star Game in San Diego.
Murphy has hit in eight straight games, hitting 12-for-30 (.400) with five doubles, four homers, 13 RBIs and six runs scored. He leads all National League batters in average (.350), doubles (28) and multi-hit games (39).
Despite the recent rough spot, the Nationals have gone 14-7 since June 26, which is the best run in the NL during that time. The Nationals have outscored opponents 110-65 in those 21 games.
Right-hander Tanner Roark is seeking his 10th win of the season. Roark has thrown seven innings or more of shutout baseball six times this season, a mark that leads the majors.
The Padres counter with right-hander Luis Perdomo (3-4, 7.36 ERA). The 23-year-old right-hander has faired better in July. In three starts, he is 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA, allowing three runs or less in two of those three games.
