Game update and more notes (O's down 4-0)

The start of tonight's game at Camden Yards was delayed 32 minutes because of rain. Once it began, Scott Feldman retired the Red Sox in order on three ground balls and 19 pitches. Adam Jones flew to center field with two outs in the bottom of the first to strand Nick Markakis, who drew a walk against Boston starter Ryan Dempster. Why do I mention Jones' at-bat? Glad you asked. Jones has homered in four straight home games for the second time in his career. It also happened July 23-Aug. 6, 2011. According to STATS, if Jones homers tonight, he would tie Chris Davis (Sept. 26, 2012-April 5, 2013) for the longest streak of games with a homer in Camden Yards history. The Orioles have homered in 11 straight games against Boston dating back to Sept. 28, 2012. According to STATS, that streak is the second-longest in club history (since 1954) behind a 12-game homer streak against the Red Sox from June 4, 1998-June 22, 1999. The Orioles have shut out the Red Sox twice this season, both games started by Chris Tillman at Camden Yards. It's the first time that the Orioles have blanked Boston twice in the same season since 1983. They haven't shut out the Red Sox three times in a season since 1976. Feldman is taking a shutout bid into the second inning tonight. Too soon? Manny Machado and J.J. Hardy have started 145 consecutive games on the left side of the infield for Baltimore since Aug. 21, 2012. According to STATS, it is the longest streak in the majors in 60 years. Since 1946, the only longer streaks are 221 by Puddin' Head Jones/Granny Hamner (Phillies, 8/16/1949-5/08/1951), 179 by Johnny Pesky/Vern Stephens (Red Sox, 7/25/1948-8/14/1949), 165 by Bobby Adams/Roy McMillan (Reds, 9/30/1951-5/01/1953) and 149 by Eddie Mathews/Johnny Logan (Braves, 8/13/1952-07/31/1953). Wes Powell, the grandson of Orioles Hall of Famer Boog Powell, hit a three-run homer Thursday to help Berlin beat Brunswick 5-1 to win the Maryland State Little League Championship and advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals next weekend in Bristol, Conn. If they win the regional, Berlin will advance to the finals in Williamsport, Pa., where Boog played in the 1954 LLWS for Lakeland, Fla. Unless there's a change, such as a trade, it appears that the Astros will send Bud Norris and Erik Bedard to the mound for the first two games of the three-game series against the Orioles that begins Tuesday night at Camden Yards. I spoke to someone in the organization earlier today who dismissed any possibility that Bedard will be traded to the Orioles. Update: The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on two singles and Shane Victorino's RBI grounder. Feldman has thrown 51 pitches in three innings. Eight of his outs have come on ground balls. J.J. Hardy was retired 2-3 to end the second inning, making him 2-for-31 vs. Dempster. Henry Urrutia lined to shortstop - another ball hit to the left side. Update II: Feldman retired the first two batters in the fourth, then gave up singles to Mike Carp and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and a three-run homer to Stephen Drew. Boston 4, Orioles 0 Feldman had thrown 38 career innings at Camden Yards without allowing a home run. Only former reliever Mark Eichhorn (43 2/3) had totaled more innings here without serving up a homer. Feldman is up to 76 pitches through the fourth. Down on the farm, Kevin Gausman was charged with four runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings for Triple-A Norfolk, with two walks and two strikeouts. He threw 84 pitches, 51 for strikes. Daniel McCutchen let an inherited runner score to complete Gausman's line.
