Game 101 lineups: Rockies at Nats

The Nationals are looking to get their three-game set with the Rockies underway tonight after a Friday night rainout. The pitching probables remain the same with right-hander Tanner Roark (8-6, 4.83 ERA) facing off against right-hander German Márquez (8-4, 4.20).

Manager Dusty Baker said Friday that Roark is starting to get back to the way he was pitching when he pitched well last season.

"I think Tanner is in baseball shape mentally and spiritually and physically," Baker said. "Because you start the season off behind, and that's what behind means. He wasn't the same Tanner that he usually was for awhile. And then it gets in your mind and you start trying to do more than you can do. And you are operating from behind. Tanner has caught up. His demeanor was much better. Last year he was a guy that we could count on to take us into six and probably seven innings. That's big for your team and it saves our bullpen. Tanner is Tanner right now."

Baker remembers the last time the Nats and Rockies tangled in late April in Denver when his club took three of four versus Colorado and scored 46 runs.

"Well they can hit, they can really hit," Baker said. "It was an offensive series out there. Colorado will wear your bullpen out over time. It boils down to pitching."

Even without a game Friday it still was an eventful evening for the Nats as they made a trade to acquire outfielder/infielder Howie Kendrick from the Phillies with cash considerations for minor league left-hander McKenzie Mills and international pool money.

Kendrick has hit .340 in 39 games this season and just game off the disabled list due to a left hamstring strain. He recently got hit by a pitch and has been also dealing with a sore hand. He has played for 12 seasons in the majors including six times in the postseason, mostly with the Angels and the Dodgers.

The Nationals and Rockies are scheduled to face off in a day-night doubleheader to wrap up the series Sunday before the Nats head to Miami.
