According to two industry sources, the Orioles are prepared to hire Toronto Blue Jays professional scouting crosschecker Gary Rajsich as their new scouting director. An announcement is expected this week.
Rajsich would replace Joe Jordan, who left the organization to take a job as the Philadelphia Phillies' farm director.
Executive vice president Dan Duquette confirmed that Rajsich is one of five finalists, and an announcement should be made before the Winter Meetings that begin Dec. 5 in Dallas. He said a final decision is pending.
I'm told that the deal is expected to be finalized by Wednesday.
Rajsich, 57, has been part of the Blue Jays' organization since 2009, but he has previous ties to Duquette in Boston.
Rajsich was a major league outfielder for parts of four seasons with the Mets, Cardinals and Giants, and also played in Japan. He's the brother of former major league pitcher Dave Rajsich.
The Sun reported earlier today that Rajsich has been hired to replace Jordan.
