Gausman, Santana and game updates (Davis homers)

ARLINGTON, Texas - Johan Santana is scheduled to throw five innings or 75 pitches Friday at extended spring training in Sarasota. The rest of Santana's schedule must be determined, but he could report to Triple-A Norfolk to begin a rehab assignment. Kevin Gausman worked one inning and threw 26 pitches tonight for Norfolk, allowing three runs and two hits, walking one, striking out two and serving up a home run. He was removed from the game in case the Orioles need him to start Saturday night at Camden Yards. The Orioles took a 1-0 lead over the Rangers tonight, but Adrian Beltre hit a two-out, two-run homer off Bud Norris in the bottom of the inning. Rangers shortstop Luis Sardinas dropped Nelson Cruz's pop up with two outs. Cruz hustled out of the box and wound up at second base, and he scored on Adam Jones' single. The ball deflected off Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor, but Jones was credited with an RBI hit. Norris hit Shin-Soo Choo leading off the bottom of the first. Norris is tied with Houston's Scott Feldman for the American Leauge lead with eight hit batters. The Pirates' Charlie Morton leads the majors with 13. Sardinas grounded into a double play - he's off to a shining start - but Mitch Moreland walked and Beltre hit his seventh home run of the season. Norris struck out Alex Rios to end the inning, but it took 11 pitches and raised his total to 28. David Lough singled in the second inning, his third hit in his last four at-bats. He's starting in left field partly because of the leg cramps that bothered Cruz in Milwaukee and again last night. "I want to get David out there," said manager Buck Showalter. "Big left field. They were telling me today how they rate defenders, I think he's rated the top left fielder maybe in baseball defensively. The metrics. We knew that. David's going to be good at it. But I do want to get Nellie after last night with the leg cramps and I want to get David out there, and this is a good place to do it. "I was kidding. I said, 'Nelson, man, you played in Texas a long time. You know about fluids and what have you.' I'll tell you, there were a lot of people pulling on him yesterday, and you know Nellie, he's so accommodating. He's trying to take care of everybody and I just think he had a long day and it kind of caught up to him after about the sixth inning." Update: Nick Markakis led off the third inning with a home run, his fourth, to tie the game. Manny Machado followed with a double, Nelson Cruz reached on another Sardinas error and Jones produced another RBI single to break the tie. Jones has six hits in two nights and is batting .300. Chris Davis walked and J.J. Hardy lifted a sacrifice fly to increase the Orioles' lead to 4-2. RIP Don Zimmer. Update: Chris Davis homered with two outs in the fifth to increase the lead to 5-2. Davis has eight home runs this season. His last one came on May 23. Tonight's shot was estimated at 380 feet. The Orioles have scored 26 runs in their last four games.
