Glover off to quick start in promotion to Double-A

Reliever Koda Glover, an eighth-round selection out of Oklahoma State in 2015, has not allowed a run in his first nine games. After stonewalling the Carolina League for seven games, Glover was promoted to Double-A Harrisburg on April 29.

In his two games for Harrisburg, Glover has fired three innings without allowing a run. He has struck out five and walked none on just two hits. He pitched in the seventh inning in his first Double-A appearance, then the seventh and eighth innings on May 2 versus Hartford.

The 23-year-old went 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA in 19 games last season, with 38 strikeouts and two walks in 30 innings.

Here is what Nationals pitching coordinator Paul Menhart had to say about Glover as spring training closed in late March:

"He's got a nice, special arm. I think we'll give him an opportunity to relieve in high leverage situations, (we are) trying to produce a big league, back end option. We will give him that opportunity. He looks great."

Potomac manager Tripp Keister said the P-Nats weren't going to name a closer and would prefer to go with a couple of guys at that spot. With Glover moving quickly up to Double-A, Glover again won't be anointed as the closer, but instead will get valuable action in the seventh and eighth innings. But keep an eye on Glover. Similar to catcher Pedro Severino's streak of catching all base runners stealing to start last season, Glover has a 0.00 ERA run to begin this campaign.
