Gonzalez gives up run in third, more on SOR Night at the Yard (O's lose 6-3)

Dustin Ackley homered onto the flag court in right field with one out in the top of the third to draw Seattle even with the Orioles at 1-1. Miguel Gonzalez followed his 11-pitch first inning with 30 pitches in the second, leaving the bases loaded. He wishes he hadn't thrown Ackley that two-seam fastball in the third. The Orioles stranded two runners in the bottom of the second after J.J. Hardy reached on an infield hit and Jonathan Schoop walked. James Paxton has thrown 46 pitches in two innings and taken a shot off his leg, bringing the Mariners head athletic trainer to the mound. I didn't take a head count at Dempsey's, but there had to be at least 50 students from "School of Roch" taking over the joint. What a fantastic time. I just wish I could have stayed longer. I may or may not have taken a sip of a martini. I haven't gotten it confirmed. Prizes were handed out, lots of group photos were taken and CardiacScott was presented with a beautiful orange and black wooden lawn chair, for lack of a better description. I noticed a cup holder. Put it to good use, Scott. There were lots of hugs and handshakes today, as well. And honestly, I can't thank you folks enough for the gifts and the card. Such a sweet gesture that really touched my heart. Update: We're not tied anymore. Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer in the fifth to give Seattle a 4-1 lead. Cano was 2-for-26 against Gonzalez before that at-bat. Cano has 29 career home runs at Camden Yards, his most at any ballpark besides Yankee Stadium. Gonzalez's streak of quality starts ends at four. Caleb Joseph homered to lead off the bottom of the fifth, his first since July 1. Update II: The Orioles failed to extend their division lead tonight with a 6-3 loss to the Mariners before 36,508 at Camden Yards. The Blue Jays also lost, leaving the Orioles 2 1/2 games ahead. The Mariners scored twice in the top of the ninth on Kendrys Morales' two-out single off T.J. McFarland. One run was charged to Tommy Hunter. Ryan Flaherty had a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom half off Mariners closer Fernando Rodney. The Orioles have scored three runs or fewer in six of their last eight games, and four or fewer in 12 of 13. The Orioles' streak of one-run games ends at seven. group-school-of-roch.pngcardiac-on-field-sidebar.pngcardiac-gausman-sidebar.pngcardiac-on-mound-sidebar.pngcardiac-pitch-sidebar.png cardiac-with-bird-gausman-sidebar.png
