Left-hander Gio Gonzalez is dealing better than a blackjack dealer at the Bellagio in Game 2 of a split doubleheader between the Nationals and Mets at Nationals Park. He has struck out seven of the first nine batters he has faced, including six straight. The Mets have one base hit from Daniel Murphy that was quickly wiped out by an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play. Zack Wheeler is matching him with five strikeouts and one Anthony Rendon single allowed through three innings. No score heading to the fourth in D.C. Update: The Nationals loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth against Wheeler. Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos with base hits and Nate Schierholtz walked. A Tyler Moore fielder's choice brought Werth home and the Nationals lead 1-0. Ramos scored on a passed ball and the Nationals lead 2-0. Later, with the bases loaded, Rendon is hit by pitch, which scores Moore and the Nationals lead 3-0. Update II: Gonzalez reached 12 strikeouts in the seventh, a new career-high. Update III: An amazing performance by Gonzalez, who goes seven innings for his 10th win. Drew Storen notches his 11th save. Nationals win 3-0 for their 93rd victory of the season.
