Good stuff from Gonzalez (updated)

The last time Michael Gonzalez took the mound, he threw 25 pitches in one-third of an inning and was booed by the Camden Yards crowd as he walked to the dugout with his head down. Gonzalez was charged with two runs and two hits in a 6-2 loss to the Red Sox on Thursday. He was encouraged afterward, despite the numbers, and manager Buck Showalter stated that the left-hander would find much better results if he brought the same stuff into his future appearances. Well, Gonzalez pitched two innings tonight, and there's good reason to be encouraged. He didn't allow a baserunner and struck out four over two innings. And he threw only 26 pitches. Update: Alex Rios homered off Koji Uehara in the ninth, but the Orioles defeated the White Sox, 6-2. I've heard of the plate moving on pitchers, but not catchers. What's up with A.J. Pierzynski? Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk lost to Louisville, 10-1, but there were some bright spots. Ryan Adams went 3-for-5 to raise his average to .303. Brandon Snyder went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .302. Josh Bell returned to the lineup as the designated hitter, going 0-for-5. Rick VandenHurk took the loss after allowing six runs and six hits, with three walks, in four innings. His ERA is 7.03. Left-hander Troy Patton relieved VandenHurk and allowed one run and three hits in three innings. Joe Mahoney is 3-for-4 with a double for Double-A Bowie. LJ Hoes hit his second home run for Single-A Frederick. Tyler Townsend is 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, raising his average to .320. Manny Machado hit his fourth home run tonight for Single-A Delmarva. He has two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored, and he's batting .342.
