Orioles top White Sox 6-2 to take first two games of series

The Orioles have started a seven-game road trip with back-to-back wins at Chicago after tonight's 6-2 victory. The Orioles end April with a record of 12-13 after going 5-18 through April last year. The Birds have won four of their last five games. Not a bad April record, considering they lost eight in a row at one point in the month.

Chris Tillman allowed just one run over five-plus innings in his first start since April 18. He improves to 1-2 with an ERA of 5.25. Struggling reliever Michael Gonzalez came up big in this win, pitching two innings and retiring all six batters he faced, four via strikeout. A fly ball he allowed in the sixth with the bases loaded scored a runner from third when catcher Jake Fox could not handle Adam Jones' throw to home. Still, Gonzalez got out of that jam and kept the O's ahead in maybe his best inning of the year. Gonzalez's four strikeouts tonight matched the total he had on the season over his first seven appearances. Robert Andino hit a solo homer in the third and his diving stop in the fourth with the O's up 2-0 started a huge 6-4-3 double play. Andino has five hits in eight at-bats in this series and is 7-for-14 during a four-game hitting streak. He also has 16 hits over his past 36 at-bats for an average of .444 in that time. Vlad Guerrero added a two-run single when the Orioles scored four in the eighth to open a 6-1 edge. The Orioles are now 5-5 in road games and 6-6 in games versus the AMerican League Central. The White Sox have lost six straight home games by a combined score of 38-17. In game three of this four-game series, Sunday at 2:10 p.m., Zach Britton (4-1, 2.84 ERA) pitches against Baltimorean Gavin Floyd (3-1, 3.60 ERA).
